Pain Management Program

This multidisciplinary program is designed to assist the patient who has been injured in a motor vehicle accident, and continues to experience pain symptoms and restrictions far longer than would have been expected, despite receiving appropriate medical care.

The goal of this multidisciplinary program is to improve both the physical and psychological management of pain. Specific goal oriented programs to maximize recovery, coping and functioning are provided by a team of experienced, supportive, professionals.

Patients complete a screening process, and a medical assessment by a chronic pain consultant. Those patients who are accepted into the multidisciplinary program must make the commitment to attend the program 5 days a week, for 8 weeks. Each week of the program has a specific emphasis, across all areas of treatment. These programs start at regular intervals, with 8 to 10 patients in each session.

The treatment team consists of medical doctors, psychologists, a chiropractor, an exercise therapist, a naturopathic doctor, and a registered nurse.

The doctors have extensive experience in the treatment and management of chronic pain conditions, and chronic pain syndrome.

Pain management is the specialty of our chiropractor, since his practice is based in a facility that treats only chronic pain patients. He uses several muscle release techniques, trigger point protocols, education, chiropractic adjustments and mobilizations geared to this patient population.

One-on-one exercise is provided by a therapist who has over 10 years of experience in the field of rehabilitation. She is qualified to provide pain management education, functional assessments (Hanoun Certified), and rehabilitative exercise.

Acupuncture is one of the forms of treatment used by our naturopathic doctor. This form of therapy has been proven effective in the reduction of medication use.

Supervision is provided by our registered nurse. A comprehensive knowledge of managing rehabilitative centres, and WSIB community clinics, added to experience in the field of occupational health care, ensures that our multidisciplinary program is well coordinated.
